The short version
We do not run servers that hold your personal data. Anything you create lives in two places only: on your device and, if you choose to sync, inside your own private Apple iCloud (CloudKit) account. Byte Science has no access to either. We can't read your notes, your tasks, or anything else you keep in our apps. That's by design.
Where your data lives
When you use an app like Jot, your content is written directly to local storage on your iPhone or iPad. It never passes through a Byte Science server on its way there.
If you turn on sync, your data is stored in your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. CloudKit databases are tied to your Apple ID, not to us. The data moves between your devices over Apple's encrypted infrastructure and remains under your control. Disable iCloud and it simply stays on-device.
What we don't do
- We don't store your content on Byte Science servers. We don't run any data servers that hold your personal information.
- We don't sell, rent, or share your data with anyone, ever.
- We don't show you ads or build advertising profiles.
- We don't require an account or ask you to hand over an email to use our apps.
- We don't track you across other apps or websites.
Security as a foundation
By keeping your data on-device and inside Apple's CloudKit, we lean on the same security model that protects the rest of your Apple ecosystem: device encryption, secure enclaves, and Apple's end-to-end protected infrastructure. There's no separate Byte Science database to breach, because one doesn't exist. The less data a company holds, the less there is to ever put at risk. So we hold none of yours.
Apple's role
Because sync relies on iCloud and CloudKit, Apple's handling of that data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and your iCloud settings. We encourage you to review them. Byte Science never receives a copy of what's stored there.
Changes to this policy
If we ever update how our apps handle data, we'll revise this page and update the date below. Our commitment won't change: your data stays with you.
